Museum program lets visitors step back in time

FINDLAY — The Hancock Historical Museum, 422 W. Sandusky St., invites families and history lovers of all ages to take a journey through America's history at "Passport Through Our Past," a one-of-a-kind event from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. The celebration is part of the nationwide America 250 initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The event will include interactive entertainment, hands-on activities and a chance to explore the unique role Hancock County has played in shaping the nation's story. The event is free to attend. No registration is required. Stepping onto the museum's campus, visitors will feel like they've traveled back in time. Historical reenactors will bring different eras of American history to life, from the War of 1812 to pioneer days and beyond. There will be an opportunity to "meet" a Civil War soldier, "chat" with John Hancock, learn about Women's Suffrage and explore the daily lives of Hancock County's early residents. Each reenactor has a story to tell, offering a chance to connect with the past in a fun and memorable way. For families, the event promises an evening of activities. Children will play games and crafts designed to teach history in a hands-on and engaging way. Whether they're creating old-fashioned crafts or playing games popular in centuries past, they will have fun while learning about our shared heritage. "I am so excited to share our history with community members, families, and especially children," said Deb Wickerham, education and volunteer director for the museum. "Come join the fun!" The entire museum campus will be open for exploration including exhibits showcasing Hancock County's contributions to the national story. Visitors can learn about the county's history from its role in westward expansion to its importance in the Underground Railroad and the Civil War. Hancock County's participation in this nationwide celebration highlights the area's local heritage and its ties to the broader story of the United States. Thanks to the generosity of Vulcan Fire Protection, Visit Findlay and Gleaners, the event is free to the public.
