Storms, wet weather halt most area games

FINDLAY – The Blanchard Valley Conference baseball and softball seasons came to a thunder-clapped halt on Wednesday when stormy weather forced the suspension of several games, including a numbers of matchups that will have a huge impact on the final league standings. In a game with first place on the line, Leipsic (7-5, 5-0 BVC) and Elmwood (5-6, 4-1 BVC) were deadlocked 0-0 in the first inning when their game, according to information on the various websites, was suspended. BVC co-leader Liberty-Benton (8-2, 5-0 BVC) was leading Arlington (2-8, 1-3 BVC) 8-0 when that game was halted in the third inning. Leipsic is at Liberty-Benton on Monday. Van Buren (8-5, 2-1 BVC) and Ada (6-5, 2-3 BVC) were also in a scoreless contest when that game was suspended because of the weather. Van Buren entered Wednesday's games as the lone unbeaten in BVC softball. The Black Knights (5-8, 3-0 BVC) and Ada (13-2, 3-2 BVC) were tied 0-0 when their game was suspended in the first inning. Three teams with one league loss were put on hold. Elmwood (14-1, 4-1 BVC) and Leipsic (2-9, 2-3 BVC) were knotted 0-0 in the first inning, Arcadia (7-7, 4-1 BVC) had a 1-0 lead on Pandora-Gilboa when that game was suspended in the second, and Liberty-Benton (11-5, 4-1 BVC) was up 7-0 on Arlington in the third. Upper Sandusky was able to get in its softball game with Colonel Crawford, and Kenslee Swavel gave up one run on seven base hits and the top the lineup provided the hits, runs and RBI the Rams needed to beat Colonel Crawford 3-1. Swavel went five innings in earning her fifth win in six decisions. She struck out six and walked two. Upper Sandusky lead-off hitter Madison Wengerd had a single, a double, walked once and scored all three runs as the Rams (11-2, 6-0 N10) remained alone atop the league standings. Johnson, batting second, also had a single and a double and drove in two runs. Madison Hart, the league leader in runs-batted-in, had three hits and her 24th RBI of the season.
