UF's Farmer signs with Ravens

FOOTBALL FINDLAY – University of Findlay graduate senior Jayden Farmer has signed as a rookie minicamp invitee with the Baltimore Ravens, the school announced Monday. Farmer, one of the Great Midwest Athletic League's running backs for the last several seasons, participated in the University of Toledo's pro day last month. Farmer was a first team All-G-MAC selection in each of the past two seasons. Last fall, when the Oilers won the league and reached the playoffs, Farmer ran for 859 yards on 185 carries, scoring nine touchdowns. In 2024, Farmer ran for 662 yards and eight TDs. BASEBALL In search of its first Great-Midwest Athletic Conference championship, the University of Findlay baseball team has had to just keep winning. This weekend, the Oilers did, sweeping four games from the visiting Lake Erie Storm and maintaining first place in the G-MAC North Division. Findlay is 31-15 (a season win record for the program), and is 22-6 in the division. The Oilers, who have won six consecutive games, are two games better than second-place Ashland in the loss column. After taking the first two games against the Storm Saturday, Findlay came back Sunday and got tremendous pitching from starters Aidan Kiessling (in Game 1) and David Jiminez (in the nightcap), collecting 2-1 and 4-2 victories over Lake Erie. Kiessling was brilliant, pitching a seven-inning complete game and allowing just one hit and an unearned run. He struck out 10 and walked two, improving to 5-4 on the season. Despite Kiessling's efforts, Lake Erie starter Tanner O'Farrell was matching him pitch for pitch into the sixth. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits. Hunter Bays took over with two outs in the sixth, getting the final out. Bays came out for the bottom of the seventh, and started the inning by walking Keelan Daniel and hitting Isaac Ramos. The next hitter, Drew Tucker, reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Aiden Booth came up, and hit a grounder that Lake Erie shortstop Travis Yankovich fielded. Daniel scored, and UF won. In the second game, Tucker's two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and sent Findlay to another win. Jimenez didn't get the win, but he was terrific, yielding just three hits over six innings and striking out five. Despite the no-decision, Jimenez – who threw 10 scoreless innings over his last two appearances – was named G-MAC Pitcher of the week. Camdon Tuttle, who allowed two runs on two hits in two innings, got the win. Colin Becker recorded the save with a scoreless ninth inning. Findlay has just four regular season games remaining in the regular season. It will be a pair of home G-MAC doubleheaders against Northwood, with two games Thursday and two games Friday . SOFTBALL The University of Findlay softball team is heading to Akron. The Oilers, who won 35 games this season and finished with an 18-6 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, will be the fourth seed when the league's conference tournament starts Wednesday at Firestone Stadium. The Oilers will play Hillsdale, the fifth seed, at noon Wednesday. Findlay finished its regular season by splitting a doubleheader against regular season champion Tiffin. In the first game Sunday, UF got an outstanding all-around game from Alexys Antal and beat the Dragons, 6-2, in Tiffin. Antal threw a complete seven innings, striking out three and not walking a batter. She allowed five hits and two runs in improving to 18-3. At the plate, Antal slapped a pair of singles and scored a run. Anna Jones singled, scored and drove in two runs for the Oilers. The Oilers came in with an out of completing a sweep, taking a 2-1 lead with Megan Heinsman's RBI single in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half, UF starting pitcher Kaylynn Carter retired the first two hitters. But then, Tiffin's Reagan Mengerink singled to left, which brought up pinch hitter Ella Esterby. Mengerink worked the count full, then slugged a ball over the left-field fence for a game-winning, two-run homer. Carter pitched very well in dropping to 7-2. She allowed eight hits, striking out two and walking five.
