Sorg resigns 5 p.m. UPDATE: Sorg charged with assault

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Nathan Sorg, 52, of Findlay, has been charged with assault. Sorg was previously a Riverdale assistant principal. According to a release from Hancock County Sheriff Michael Cortez, Sorg has been charged with assault after he was accused of assaulting a student. Daily media logs from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office show deputies responding to the 20000 block of State Route 37, Mount Blanchard at approximately 3 p.m. on April 14. A Tuesday posting on the district's social media said the district's board of education accepted Sorg's resignation at Monday night's board meeting. Sorg's resignation letter does not share reasoning behind the decision but simply thanks the board for the opportunity to serve the students and staff of Riverdale Local Schools. A Monday statement from Riverdale superintendent, Greg Rossman said the district promptly responded to the allegations. "The district promptly reported the incident to the Hancock County Sheriff's Department and placed Mr. Sorg on administrative leave, directing him to remain off school grounds," the statement read. "The district has fully cooperated with the Sheriff's Department. In addition, the district conducted its own investigation." The statement added that the district's investigation is still ongoing. "The board has policies and procedures, consistent with Ohio law that address the use of restraint and seclusion of students and expects its employees to act consistently with the law," the statement continued. A complaint filed by the student's parent indicated Sorg allegedly believed the student to be in possession of a vaping device. No device was found, the report states. The complainant told deputies that Sorg put his hands on the student's neck and investigators noted visible marks on the student. Investigators have said the case remains under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
