CMC highlights Fun Shop program

FINDLAY — Children's Mentoring Connection of Hancock County is continuing its Fun Shop program, a hands-on mentoring experience that brings youth and volunteers together to build skills, confidence and meaningful relationships. Held in partnership with the Hancock Historical Museum, the Fun Shop takes place in the barn beside the Little Red School House on County Road 236. This unique space offers an engaging environment where mentors and mentees can work side-by-side on creative projects while building lasting connections. The Fun Shop was launched through funding support from the proceeds of the Flag City Morning Rotary Club Derby Gala in 2025, along with the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation and other contributions for special projects. The program continues to grow thanks to strong community collaboration and the dedication of many volunteers, making it a true community partnership in action. As the program enters its second season, participants are already demonstrating growth from the previous year — returning with increased confidence and the ability to jump into new projects. While the builds are important, the relationships formed are what make the greatest impact. CMC continues to seek additional mentors to support youth in the community, many of whom are currently waiting for a match. One of the most common concerns expressed by potential volunteers is time. Many who get started find that mentoring is more flexible than they expected, naturally fitting into their schedules and evolving with the seasons of life. To help community members explore mentoring in a simple and accessible way, CMC is offering a series of virtual information meetings: • June 9 — noon to 1 p.m. • June 11 — 6-7 p.m. • June 16 — noon to 1 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to choose the date and time that works best for them. These sessions provide a brief overview of mentoring opportunities, program options and how to get started. No long-term commitment is required to attend, just an opportunity to learn more. Volunteers do not need special skills, just a willingness to show up and build a meaningful connection.
