9 pounds of meds turned in during drug take back

FINDLAY — Blanchard Valley Health System, in partnership with the Wyandot County Sheriff's Department and the Carey Police Department, collected a total of nine pounds of medication as a part of a National Drug Take Back Day event on April 25. A total of nine vehicles participated in the drive-up, drop-off event which was set up to provided community members with a safe, convenient way to dispose of expired or unused medications. Proper disposal of medications plays a role in preventing misuse and protecting the environment, a release from BVHS states. By removing unused medications from homes, the event helped reduce the risk of substances falling into the wrong hands and prevent contamination of local landfills and water sources. "All it takes is a few unused medications in a home to create a potential safety risk," said BJ Pasztor, chief operating officer of acute care services and chief nursing officer at BVHS. "Events like this make it easy for our community members to do the right thing — protect their families, prevent misuse, and safely dispose of medications in a way that also protects our environment." All medications collected during the event were transferred to law enforcement officials for secure incineration.
