Baseball CLAY 4FINDLAY 0OREGON – Landon Echelberry pitched well for Findlay High's baseball team last season. He pitched even better against Findlay on Friday.Echelberry's family moved from Findlay to Oregon between his freshman and sophomore years. While he changed uniforms, the talent that earned the pitcher/infielder all-league honors in 2025 was again on display as Echelberry, a right-hander with a 1-1 record and 2.74 earned-run-average, allowed just four hits and struck out nine in Clay's 4-0 victory in a Northern Lakes League cross-over game.In a matchup of state-ranked teams, Clay, unbeaten (6-0) among the NLL's Cardinal Division schools, posted its tenth straight win and improved its record to 13-4 overall. Findlay, ranked No. 15 in Division I, had a four-game win streak halted and is 12-6.Kaleb Kanney pitched six strong innings for Findlay. The sophomore right-hander gave up just three hits over six innings. One of those hits was Alex Goetz's clutch two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the second inning. Clay scored three of its four runs in that inning, and added an insurance run in the fifth.Findlay (12-6) has the weekend off before a pivotal home-and-home series with Anthony Wayne (11-5). Unofficially, both team are 3-1 in the NLL and tied for first in the Buckeye Division. According to MaxPrep results, the Trojans and Generals are a game up on Perrysburg (4-2 Buckeye) in the loss column, but a game behind the Yellow Jackets in the win column. Softball PERRYSBURG 10FINDLAY 5PERRYSBURG – Findlay High's softball team outhit Perrysburg 10-7 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets capitalized on five costly errors and five walks to score seven unearned runs, though, and beat the Trojans 10-5 in a Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division matchup.Kylynn Thomas belted a three-run home run, Chloe LaFaso had two doubles, scored two runs and drove in another and Aly Seuberling had an RBI double for Perrysburg (10-7, 3-1 NLL-Buckeye).Delaney Harris had a big day for Findlay. The senior shortstop was 4-for-4 – all singles – and drove in three runs. Lacrosse FINDLAY 18MVCD 0TOLEDO – Findlay High's girls lacrosse team rebounded from two tough losses in a big way on Friday, routing Maumee Valley Country Day 18-0 in a non-league matchup.Ava Cooper scored five goals and Mihaya Saito and Noah Tesner had three each for the Trojans, who at 8-8 have achieved a program high for wins in a season.Elleson Rader scored two goals and Kaitlyn McCord, Morgan Doepker, Taylor Zeigler-Bucher, Yasmin Texeira and Rayanna Cap added one each.Findlay, 3-5 against Northern Lakes League opponents, will wrap up its 2026 regular season next week with a road match at Anthony Wayne (7-5, 6-1 NLL) on Monday and a home date with Sylvania Northview (0-11, 0-8 NLL) on Wednesday.Track SHAWNEE INV.LIMA – The weather was not the best but most of Findlay's times and distances were when the Trojans dominated the girls portion of the Shawnee Invitational on a wet and chilly Friday night at Lima Shawnee High School.Findlay's girls swept all four relays and finished 1-2 in three of the five field events in piling up 202 team points. Lima Bath was a distant second with 121 points in the nine-school meet.Josey Weihrauch, Mya Hammer and Olivia Gayhart were on three winning relay teams, teaming with Katelynn Carpenter to finish first in the 400 (50.20) and 800 (1:47.36) and with Anika Helms on the championship 1,600 (4:13.01). Abanna Dotson, Gabby Brankamp, Megan Guthrie and Kayla Moyer completed the relay sweep by winning the 3,200 (10:27.05).Weihrauch also won the 200-meter dash (27.33) with Khaila Stephenson third (29.39), Dotson won the 800 (2:29.61) with Guthrie fourth (2:40.34) and Hammer was second (13.54) and Emmersyn Patey fourth (13.86) in the 200. Helms placed second in the 400 (1:05.1), and Lexie Steffen was first in the 100 hurdles (16.61) ahead of teammate Kelsey Ferguson (4th, 18.44) and second in the 300s (50.02).Moyer was third (5:43.72) and Brankamp fourth (5:44.80) in the 1,600, and Isla Crim placed third in the 3,200 (12:56.19) as Findlay scored team points in every running event.The Trojans did even better in the field events, scoring 62 point in four of the five competitions.Findlay finished 1-2 in three events: Lainie Clevenger (15-1) and Carpenter (14-10) in the long jump, Steffen (11-0) and Neeti Barot (10-6) in the pole vault, and Gayhart (4-6) and Addison Lobb (4-6) in the high jump.Madison Wheeler added a runner-up showing in the discus (98-8).Lima Shawnee won the boys meet with 165 points. Stine also teamed with Tyler Strabley, Troy Plate and Luca Parnell on the second place 3,200 relay (8:54.95).Carter Imke, Jediah Scott and Greyson Geiser won the 400 relay (43.22) with Soni Hines and were third in the 800 relay (1:32.63) with Maysen Hetrick.Hines was second in the 100 (11.41) and Strabley was second in the 800 (2:04.78). In a 200-meter final in which just .6 of a second separated the top four runners, Geiser was third (23.75) and Scott fourth (23.82).Also placing third for the Trojans were Jack Zoll in the 400 (53.91), Hetrick in the long jump (18-2) and Jadyn Marquis in the discus (125-11). TIM DOWNING INV.TONTAGANY – An ability to double up, especially in the distance events, paid off for Van Buren on Friday when the Knights (106 points) finished a close second to Toledo Scott (119) in the boys portion of Tim Downey Track Invitational at Otsego High School.Van Buren won the boys 3,200 with Carter Finley, Carter Fry, Griffin Ware and Andrew Puperi posting a winning time of 8:46.22. Ware would go to win the 800-meter run (2:07.85), while Finley was second (4:48.18) and Puperi third (4:55.27) in the 1,600, and Finley was second (10:37.40) and Mason Leifheit third (10:46.81) in the 3,200.Brayden Howard placed second in the 110 hurdles (19.97) and Carson Stone, Colin Treece and Cooper Bahn were on two runner-up relays, teaming with Cooper Hanna on the 800 (1:34.71) and with Brooks Hill on the 1,600 (3:34.54).Gavin Fruth (12-6) and Hill (12-9) gave Van Buren another 1-2 finish in the pole vault.Van Buren was sixth in the girls meet. UF SOFTBALL AKRON – The University of Findlay continued to pound its way literally -- through the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament on Friday.Anna Jones and Kaylynn Carter ignited an eight-run fourth inning rally with two-run home runs and Kayla Dykin belted an exclamation point three-run blast in the sixth as UF pummeled Ashland 15-1 in thesemifinals of the GMCA tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron.UF coupled a potent attack with stellar pitching by Alexys Antal (18-3), who allowed just one hit in the six-inning game.In matching the school record for wins in a season, the 38-12 Oilers earned a spot in today's final.
