Ohio Northern bomb threat is false alarm

ADA — A bomb threat at Ohio Northern University caused officials to shut down and evacuate campus Tuesday. Law enforcement gave the all-clear about 5:40 p.m., after searching and clearing all buildings on campus, an online post from the university states. Students were able to return to residence halls and campus housing. All academic buildings remained closed until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Classes and normal business operations were expected to start up Wednesday as well. "We understand situations like these can be stressful. Assistance is available if you would like to speak to someone," the university's post reads. "Students may call the Counseling Center to make an appointment or reach out to the Residence Life staff, if you need a listening ear. Faculty and staff may receive support through our Employee Assistance Program by calling 1-888-628-4824 or on the web." The school first notified students and posted on social media just after 2:45 p.m. that it had received a bomb threat and asked students to immediately evacuate campus. Buses were staged near the university to transport students to Ada High School. They warned those in residence halls and campus housing to evacuate also. The university thanked ONU Public Safety, Ada Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, Kenton Police Department, Forest Police Department, Perry Township police, and the West Central Regional Bomb Squad for responding Tuesday.
