Amanda, Delaware Twp. voters renew levies

FINDLAY — Voters in Delaware and Amanda townships voted Tuesday to renew levies to support their fire departments. Delaware Township voters renewed a levy for the purpose of fire protection, including the general operations of the fire department and the purchase of firefighting vehicles, apparatus and equipment. The 2.5 mill levy is expected to result in revenue of $100,496 annually for the township. The owner of a property valued at $100,000 would expect to pay $56 per year. According to unofficial results reported by the Hancock County Board of Elections Tuesday night, 193 voters in Delaware Township (71.48%) voted in support of the levy and 77 voters (28.52%) voted against it. This vote renews the levy for five years. It has been in existence since 2006. Amanda Township voters also renewed a levy for the purpose of fire protection. It's a 1.5 mill levy, and the owner of a property valued at $100,000 would pay around $32 annually. The levy is expected to generate $52,993 annually for the township. Township trustee Steven Ruggles told The Courier in April that the levy supports the Vanlue Fire Department. The all-volunteer fire department serves the village of Vanlue as well as Amanda Township. The township collects the funds and then gives the village its portion. Unofficial results show 132 voters in Amanda Township (74.16%) voting for the levy and 46 voters (25.84%) voting against it. This levy, too, has been renewed for five years.
