Riverdale income tax renewed for 3 years

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Residents of Riverdale Local School District have voted to renew an annual 1% income tax for three years to support current school district expenses. The district encompasses 143 square miles in Hancock, Hardin and Wyandot counties. Unofficial results from all three county election offices Tuesday night showed a total of 535 votes in favor of the income tax renewal and 481 votes against it. This included 261 votes for the income tax renewal and 200 votes against in Hancock County; 126 votes for the tax and 119 against it in Wyandot County; and 148 votes for the tax and 162 against it in Hardin County. The vote has renewed an existing 1% traditional income tax set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026. The levy originally dates to the 1990s and has been renewed every three years since then. The vote Tuesday has renewed it for three years, beginning on January 1, 2027. Over the past three fiscal years, the revenues generated by this income tax accounted for an average of around 15% of all general fund revenues, district treasurer Addison Clark told The Courier in April. This is the general fund's third-largest source of revenue, behind state aid and general property tax revenue.
