Findlay High designated Purple Star School FINDLAY — Findlay High School has been officially designated a Purple Star School by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This award recognizes schools that demonstrate a major commitment to students and families connected to the U.S. military. The Purple Star designation is a result of a comprehensive collaboration led by Emily Greer, FHS college and career counselor and military liaison, and Andrea Barger, coordinator of development. Together, they spearheaded initiatives to ensure that military-connected students—who often face unique challenges such as frequent relocations and parental deployments — receive the academic and emotional support necessary to thrive. "We are proud to be a place of belonging for all students, and proud of the commitment we have from our staff members to ensure there is a place for our military families to feel that belonging," said Findlay High School Head Principal Meg Simon. "We are grateful that Emily and Andrea prioritized this effort for our students and families." Findlay High School has a proud history of honoring military families and graduates who are serving or have served, including hosting an annual veterans dinner through Student Leadership as well as a digital display of veteran alumni in the FHS Great Hall. To qualify for the Purple Star, FHS met stringent criteria, including the designation of a dedicated staff liaison to support military students and maintaining a dedicated webpage for military family resources. Volunteers needed to place flags on graves FINDLAY — The Hancock County Veteran's Council is requesting volunteers to help with honoring our local heroes by placing a flag on the graves of all veterans in the Maple Grove Cemetery on May 9 at 8 a.m. Volunteers are to meet at the garage in the back entrance of the cemetery off of River Street. Rummage sale scheduled FINDLAY — A Spring Fling Rummage Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on May 9 at Findlay Amvets Post 21, 423 W Trenton Ave. All proceeds go to Findlay City Schools lunch program.
