Generals top Trojans; BVC leaders roll on

AN. WAYNE 13 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Findlay kept state-ranked Anthony Wayne quiet for a couple of innings on Wednesday. The Generals started connecting on their second-time through the lineup, though, scoring five times in the top of the third inning, adding six runs in the fifth and chalking up a 13-0 Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division softball win over the Trojans. Ranked No. 8 among Ohio's Division II programs, Anthony Wayne improved its overall record to 19-2 and remained unbeaten (5-0) in NLL Buckeye Division games. Findlay, ranked 18th in Division I, dropped to 15-5 overall, 3-3 in the league. Reagan Gwin belted a two-run home run during Anthony Wayne's five-run rally in the third inning and Megan Sumner had a two-run blast in the fifth. Sumner drove in four runs overall, Liz Carrizales (2-1B) drove in three and Payton DeTray and winning pitcher Piper Phillips (2-1B) knocked in two each. Phillips and reliever Casey Lyons limited Findlay to one hit, a single by Ryan Boes. They also combined for 10 strikeouts. An. BVC SOFTBALL The race for the 2026 Blanchard Valley Conference softball championship remained a three-team sprint to the finish on Wednesday with co-leaders Liberty-Benton, Elmwood and Arcadia all posting league wins. Liberty-Benton (16-7, 8-1 BVC) crushed Pandora-Gilboa 20-1, Arcadia (10-8, 7-1 BVC) rolled past Vanlue 17-5, and Elmwood (17-4, 7-1 BVC) defeated Van Buren 5-2, leaving all three co-leaders with either 8-1 or 7-1 BVC records. All three have already gone head-to-head, with Arcadia beating Liberty-Benton 18-0 on April 6, Elmwood topping Arcadia 12-1 on April 9, and L-B getting past Elmwood 9-8 in eight innings on April 20. Liberty-Benton, which will be making the jump from the BVC to the Northern Lakes League's Cardinal Division next school year, can claim at least a share of the 2026 BVC softball title by beating Arlington on Friday. Arcadia hosts Ada (19-3, 6-2 BVC) on Friday and wraps up BVC play May 13 at Pandora-Gilboa. Elmwood, BVC champion the past two seasons, is at Riverdale Saturday and hosts McComb on Monday. Carley Schwab was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, drove in two runs and scored four times. Payton Spence was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double and also scored four runs. ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;5 VAN BUREN 2 BLOOMDALE – Elmwood broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, added an insurance run in the fourth and held off Van Buren 5-2 in Wednesday's BVC matchup. Elmwood (17-4, 7-1 BVC) outhit Van Buren (8-12, 4-3 BCVC) 10-8 in the contest. ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;17 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;5 VANLUE – Arcadia raced to a 10-0 lead and scored in every inning in posting its 17-5 win over Vanlue. The Redskins brought out the heavy lumber with Abby Abbott (3 RBI) belting two home runs and Alanna Tucker (5 RBI) and Allyson McCartney pounding one each. Alexis Carter was 3-for-3 with a double, two singles and three runs scored. Addison Colman and Addyson McCartney also had RBI doubles for the Redskins. Aubree Higgins had a pair of base hits for Vanlue (5-10, 1-7 BVC). CAREY 16 WYNFORD &emsp;&emsp;6 CAREY – Tylinn Stoll's first-inning grand slam erased a 3-0 deficit and started Carey on its way to a 16-6 Northern 10 Conference softball win over Wynford. Stoll, a senior pitcher/third baseman for the Blue Devils, also singled, doubled and drove in six runs. Danika Hanna (2-1B, 2B) also had three hits and Autumn Bouillon (1B, 2B, 2 RBI), Ashley Hohman (1B, 2B, RBI) and Trinity Reinhart (2-1B, RBI) had two each. Rylee Robinson had three hits and Lily Laipply and Briley Hildreth had two each for Wynford. Madison Hart blasted two home runs and drove in five runs as Upper Sandusky, 18-3 overall, ran its undefeated N10 record to 11-0. Ava Saull (3-1B, RBI) and Ella Frombaugh (3-1, 2 RBI) also had three hits and Addy Johnson (2-1B, RBI), Lauren Parker (2-1B, 2 RBI) and Kendall Taylor (2-1B, RBI) had two each. Madi Smith had three singles and a double in going 4-for-4 for Seneca East (5-10, 4-7 N10).
