FHS baseball takes down Bowling Green

BASEBALL FINDLAY 6 BG 2 FINDLAY -- Caleb Kanney singled twice and drove in two runs, and three Findlay pitchers combined to hold Bowling Green to six hits in a 6-2 win. Grant Emmans singled, scored and had two RBIs for the Trojans, who scored three runs in the second inning and another three runs in the third. Ryan Maas started on the mound for Findlay and picked up the win, going five innings and striking out one and walking one on five hits. Cooper McKanna threw a scoreless inning of relief, and Hunter Sertell (who singled, scored and drove in a run at the plate) pitched the seventh, allowing a hit and a run. Owen Vick, won his first match at the Northern Lakes League Tennis tournament, and finished second in the Buckeye Division. The Trojans added four fourth-place finishes Thursday, and ended up fourth in the overall NLL Buckeye Division standings, which combines dual matches and tournament play. Anthony Wayne won the conference title, ahead of Perrysburg and Northview, respectively. Whitmer took fifth. Vick received a bye into the second round, where he defeated Northview's Hunter Moriarty, 7-5, 6-3. That sent Vick into the finals, where he was topped by the No. 1 seed, Anthony Wayne's Brody Sutto, 6-0, 6-1. At second singles, the Trojans' Aiden Buddelmeyer won his first match, and finished fourth. Buddelmeyer topped Whitmer's Sam Webber, 6-1, 6-1, before falling in the second round to the eventual champion, Anthony Wayne's Will Black, 6-3, 6-1. In the third-place match at second singles, Buddelmeyer was defeated by Northview's Davis Barror, 6-3, 6-3. Like Buddelmeyer, Findlay's No. 3 singles player, Ashton Barger, took fourth. Barger won a first-round match, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), over Whitmer's John Huston. In the second round, Perrysburg's Henry Burton got past Barger, 6-0, 6-0. That sent Barger into the third-place match, where he fell to Anthony Wayne's Elliot Keating, 6-3, 6-2. In the first doubles tournament, Noah Klink and Grant Basinger went 1-2 to finish fourth at first doubles. At second doubles, the Trojans duo of Tyler Asel and Jake Best did the same. The Trojans will host Toledo Central Catholic today in a non-conference regular season match. BOYS LACROSSE SYLVANIA – Will Hammer's goal with 5:44 left in regulation broke a 4-4 tie with Northview, and sent Findlay to a 5-4 win Thursday. Hammer's score gave him 150 points for his career as the Trojans improved to 11-6, 9-2 in the NLL. Perrysburg defeated Anthony Wayne Thursday, giving the Yellow Jackets the outright league title. Cam Wight scored twice for the Trojans. He surpassed 1,000 points with his goals, while Griffin Lane (won 7 of 12 faceoffs) won his 500th career faceoff and Hudson Yeager – who had four ground balls in the win – reached 200 for his career. Cashel West made seven saves in goal for the Trojans, while Jaron Clark and Will Hammer each found the back of the net and Draven Wilson had an assist.
