Oilers crush Chargers, reach G-MAC tourney final

College Baseball MASON – After the University of Findlay's dramatic win over Hillsdale Thursday in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, the Oilers found themselves facing the Chargers again Friday. But this time, there was no need for dramatics. Casey Maruniak slammed a three run homer in the third inning – part of an eight-run uprising – and Findlay advanced to today's tournament final with a convincing 11-0 win. Maruniak's homer was his team-leading ninth of the season and the Oilers' second in as many days. Gavyn Smith and Mike Sciortino drove in two runs each for UF. Findlay got on the board in the first inning, scoring twice off Hillsdale starting pitcher Patrick MacLean. Smith smacked an RBI double and Mason Myers knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. In the third, Findlay chased MacLean after Smith hit an RBI single, Myers an RBI double and Sciortino's double plated two runs. That was more than enough for Aidan Kiessling and the UF pitching staff. Kessling started and went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. Connor Evanich and Sebastian Stevens combined to pitch a scoreless seventh to close out the game. Findlay improved to 35-18. It will face either Ashland or Kentucky Wesleyan today in the tournament championship.
