Bluffton girls, Arlington boys claim team titles in Ada

TRACK ADA INVITATIONAL ADA – Bluffton's girls team won a third straight title in convincing fashion and Arlington captured the boys crown at the Ada Invitational track meet.Bluffton dominated the girls meet. The Pirates (124.08) beat Spencerville (75) by almost 50 points, while Spencerville edged Riverdale (74.83) by less than one point for second. Arlington was fifth (63), Carey seventh (45) and Ada ninth (31), with Fostoria (24), Hardin Northern (12) and Cory-Rawson in the field as well.Arlington edged Allen East 103-92 for the boys title, with Bluffton (84) a close third. Carey (63) was fourth, Riverdale sixth (48), Ada eighth (34) Fostoria ninth (33), Cory-Rawson 12th (16) and Hardin Northern 15th (11).Bluffton's Maelee Miller and Nora Mathews, Arlington's Alexis Geiser and Riverdale's Marissa Bonham had award-winning performances.Miller won the 400-meter run (57.02) and the 100 hurdles (15.55), and Matthews was meet champion in the 800 (2:23.36) and 1,600 (5:14.91). Bluffton got another first from Bekah Rehm in the girls pole vault (10-0).Geiser won the 200 (25.93), was second in the 100 (12.59) and anchored two first-place relays, the 400 (50.50) with Paige Clevenger, Callie Hartman and Olivia Pepple, and the 800 (1:47.39) with Clevenger, Hartman and Izzy Kertz.Bonham was second in the 200 (26.64), 400 (57.55) and high jump (5-2), and anchored Riverdale's winning 1,600 relay (4:09.43) that included Paige Vent, Emma Kemmere and Tamijah Altvater.Carey's Elysa Holsinger was meet runner-up in the 300 hurdles (47.17), and Ada's Jordyn Smith was second in the long jump (16-2¾).A talented field of sprinters led to some photo-finish results in the boys meet.Ada's Kaleb Hickman was involved in two of those races, winning the 200-meter dash (22.66) over Hardin Northern's Riley Newton (22.68), and adding the 400 title (51.06) in a near dead heat with Arlington's Lucas McIlroy (51.33) and Cuyler Rausch (51.45).In the 100, Bluffton's Kain Wright (11.15) nipped Carey's Tripp Phoenix (11.40) at the wire.Arlington's Trenton Heacock doubled up in the hurdles, finishing second in both the 110s (16.01) and 300s (42.15). Calvin Willow won the high jump with a leap of 6-4, beating Fostoria's Daishaughn Settles (6-2) for top honors in that event.Riverdale's Kolten Evans doubled up in the distance races, winning the 1,600 in 4:28.41 and the 3,200 in 9:55.18). Riverdale's Grant Inbody was second in the boys discus (156-4), while Carey's Landyn Miller was meet champion in the 800 (2:00.51).Bluffton raced to victory in two of the four relays with Kizer Young and Kohen Anderson teaming with Lleyton Miller and Tayte Giesige in the 800 (1:31.95), and with Wright and Calvin Derstine in the 1,600 (3:30.07). Giesige also won the long jump, leaping 22-¼ to edge Fostoria's Lamont Johnson (21-0) in that event. PCL MEET COLUMBUS GROVE – Columbus Grove set a few records with its speed and captured both titles with its depth and balance in sweeping the Putnam County League track meet on Friday.Grove piled up 218 points in the girls meet and 157 in the boys competition. Pandora-Gilboa was second (116) and Leipsic third (97) in the boys meet, with P-G fifth (43) and Leipsic seventh (26) among the eight girls teams.Grove's girls swept all four relays and set meet records in all of them. Devanie Pingle and Liv Mayberry had a hand in two records, joining Jade Roeder and Kandal Palte on the winning 1,600 relay (4:01.83), and Lily Montgomery and Sarah Kamphaus on the 3,200 relay (9:51.78).Brynnn Calvelage and Allison Thompson were on two record-setting relays as well, the 400 (53.13) with Brynn Halker and Hailey Mertz, and the 800 (1:52.32) with Lydia Sarka and Lillian Stechschulte.Grove's depth added up quickly. Mayberry was first (2:22.29) and Pingle second (2:25.69) in the 800, Kamphaus won the 1,600 (5:41.22) and 3,200 (12:14.46) with Montgomery (5:50.00) and Claire Koch (12:59.6) second in those races respectively, and Bree Closson (15.58) and Calvelage (17.31) placing 1-2 in the 100 hurdles.A four-event winner, Palte also won the 100-meter dash (13.23), the 300 hurdles (45.59) and the high jump (4-10). Roeder won the 200 (26.85) and was second in the 400 (59.60) and Nicole Nesby was first in the shot put (36-8½). Pandora-Gilboa's Ashley Draper won an individual championship for the Rockets with a throw of 118-4 in the discus.Grove dominated the distance events in the boys meet, with Holden Hartzog (10:15.32) and Zack Bryan (10:51.65) placing 1-2 in the 3,200 and Caiden Squillante winning the 1,600 (4:36.39).Trevon Baxter was a three event champion for the Bulldogs, winning the 100 (11.49), the long jump (22-8¼) and leading off the record-setting 400 relay (45.03) that included Jarrod Holland, Graeden Maag and Bailey Maag. Holland also captured the high jump (6-4) and Brock Schafer was first in 110 hurdles (15.94)Pandora-Gilboa's Landen Moore anchored two first place relays, the 1,600 (3:30.69) with Cam Verhoff, Cory Gerten and Andrew Webster, and the 3,200 (8:24.01) with Adam Burell, Jack Buell and Gavino Barrera.Verhoff also won the 300 hurdles (42.02), Adam Buell was first in the 800 (2:01.52) and Ben Burkholder was second in the long jump (20-8½).Leipsic's Nolyn Lammers doubled up in the field events, winning the shot (42-8) and placing second in the discus (142-3). Marquis Williams was second in both the 100 (11.62) and 400 (51.92), and Calvin Miller was runner-up in the 1,600(4:50.50). HARDIN COUNTY MEETADA – Riverdale swept both boys and girls titles and Ada placed second in both meets during the Hardin County track meet on Saturday.Riverdale edged Ada 132 to 129 in the boys competition, with Hardin Northern fourth. In the girls standings, Riverdale (162) and Ada (129) were 1-2, with Hardin Northern fifth (39).Riverdale's boys scored well in the distance events with Kolten Evans winning the 1,600 (4:28.41) and 3,200 (9:5.18) and Cale Young (2:08.75) and Gabe Donaldson (2:13.90) finishing 1-2 in the 800. Donaldson, Young, Evans and Cody Flowers-Barger also won the 3,200 relay and the Falcons added a first by Asher Abraszek in the 110 hurdles (19.54) and Grant Inbody in the discus (156-4).Ada's Kaleb Hickman had a huge meet, winning the 100 (11.73) and 200 (22.66) by fractions over Hardin Northern's Riley Newton (11.76, 22.68). Hickman also finished first in the 400 (51.06) and ran a leg on the first place 400 relay (46.86).Riverdale's Marissa Bonham was a four event winner in the girls meet. In addition to winning the 800 relay (1:50.51) with Emma Kemmere, Paige Vent and Seneca Wentz, and the 1,600 with Vent, Kemmere and Tamijah Altvater (4:09.43), Bonham won individual titles in the 400 (57.55) and high jump (5-2).Altvater swept the 100 (13.46) and 200 (27.54), Kemmere captured the 300 hurdles (51.90) and Emily O'Flaherty took the 100 hurdles (19.25).Ada's Jordyn Smith won the long jump (16-2¾) and was on the winning 400 relay (52.88) with Charleigh Entinghe, Rose Baxter and Kyla Coleman.Hardin Northern's Addison Richardson won the discus (99-0), but came up a quarter-of-an-inch shy (30-7¼) of matching her sister Ava (30-7½) in the shot. GREEN BEAR INVITETOLEDO – It was a record-setting night for Hopewell-Loudon athletes at the Green Bears Invitational hosted by Ottawa Hills.Aidan Ewald shattered two meet records in winning the discus (173-0) and the shot put (51-11). Ian Bloom won the boys 800-meter run with a record time of 1:59.73, and Lily Brickner took the girls long jump with a mark of 15-5¾.Hopewell-Loudon was second in the girls final standings and third in the boys meet.
