Baseball FINDLAY 8WHITMER 1TOLEDO – Findlay chipped away early, then broke the game open with three runs in the top of the sixth inning in beating Toledo Whitmer 8-1 on Monday in a Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division matchup.Findlay scored at least one run an inning in building a 5-1 lead after four. Reece Stillings and Caleb Kanney pitched shutout ball the rest of the way Lead-off man Jackson Flechtner had two singles and a triple and senior shortstop Blade Wendt had three baes hits, drove in a run and scored one. Jacob Gebhardt (RBI) and Cole Hull (2 RBI) had a single and a double each, and Stillings and Luke Crates (2 RBI) both had doubles as part of Findlay's 13-hit attack.Stillings went the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out six.Now 16-7 overall, Findlay improved to 5-2 in NLL Buckeye Division games and, unofficially, shares first place in the standings with Perrysburg (6-2 NLL). The Tigers made the game close with three runs in the fifth and three in the seventh. Camden Swain got the final two outs in the seventh inning to secure the victory. North Baltimore out-hit McComb 9-6, but committed six errors. The Panthers had five. Zander South went 2-3 and scored a run for the Tigers, while Jack Clark singled and had two RBIs. RIVERDALE 14 RIDGEMONT 9 MOUNT VICTORY – Riverdale showed some grit in Monday's game against Ridgemont in Mount Victory. Despite scoring four runs in each of the first two innings, and despite holding an 8-4 advantage going to the bottom of the seventh, the Falcons were forced into extra innings when the Gophers scored four times. But the Falcons came back, scoring six runs in the top of the eighth, and holding on for a 14-9 non-conference win. The Falcons had 13 hits on the day, all singles. Jackson Armrose had three of them, scoring a run while driving in three. Kydin Reed had a single, a run scored and two RBIs. Grady Phelps had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Falcons. He also threw 5 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing three runs, one earned, striking out seven and walking seven. He got a no-decision. Carter Vent, who had two singles and an RBI at the plate, picked up the win in relief as the Falcons improved to 6-14. For Ridgemont, Maddox Thompson had two hits and three RBIs. NORTHERN 16 USV 1 DOLA – Hardin Northern collected its second win of the season, downing Northwest Central Conference foe Upper Scioto Valley, 16-1 in Dola. The Polar Bears improved to 2-14. ARCADIA 4 ADA 1 ARCADIA – Each team managed just five base hits, but Arcadia took advantage of three Ada errors and topped the Bulldogs, 4-1. The Redskins (9-11, 4-6 BVC) pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the win. Mason Wibley singled and doubled for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 7-13, 3-6 in the BVC.
