Findlay blanks Ada, ties program mark for wins in a season

Softball REGULAR SEASON FINDLAY 3ADA 0ADA – Natalie Steffes pitched a four-hit shutout and this season's Findlay High softball team achieved a program milestone with Friday's 3-0 victory over Ada.Findlay upped its record to 18-5. Records dating back to 1976 indicate that ties the school record for wins in a season, a mark earlier established by the 2004 (18-11), 2017 (18-7) and 2021 (18-8) teams.Steffes, a senior right-hander, was in a pitchers' duel with Ada freshman ace Aubrey Jordan. Steffes (9-4) gave up zero runs on four base hits and struck out four. Her Findlay teammates backed her with errorless defense.Jordan also pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five.Findlay broke a scoreless tie when Addison Hartman's sacrifice fly produced the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. SOUTH 6FINDLAY – Findlay High's girls lacrosse team overcame a slow start with a powerful finish and beat Westerville South 11-6 on Friday in a Division I tournament game at Elmer Graham Stadium.Findlay trailed 5-3 at the half, but stormed back to post the first tournament win in program history. Mihaya Saito led the comeback with four goals, Ava Cooper had three and Greta Zaciewski netted two. Saito and Zaciewski also had one assist each.Elleson Rader and Noah Tesner also scored a goal and Allie Chiow made 10 saves for the Trojans, who will take a 10-9 record to New Albany on Wednesday to play the 12-6, No. 2-seeded Eagles.Westerville South, the No. 10-seeded team in the bracket, saw its record fall to 6-8. COLLEGE SOFTBALL LEBANON, Ill. – Findlay had a 4-2 lead over Rockhurst in the bottom of the sixth inning at the Division II Regional softball tournament in Lebanon, Illinois. After Oilers reliever Kayla Dykin fanned the first two Hawks she faced in the sixth, Findlay was not only four outs from a win, but from extending its season. But then Rockhurst's Kaylee Pugh reached first on an error. That opened the door for the Hawks, and they took advantage. Dykin walked the next two hitters, then allowed a three-run double to Rockhurst's Taylor Sedham. That sent Rockhurst to a 5-4 win. Findlay's season ended 39-14. They went 0-2 at the regional, and were in a must-win situation after dropping Thursday's game, 9-2, to Missouri S&T. Missouri S&T – which lost its first game Friday --and Rockhurst were to play Friday evening. . Riley Braden – who threw six innings of relief and allowed two runs on four hits – got the win for the Hawks. Dykin took the loss, although none of the three runs she allowed were earned. Dykin came on in relief for Alexys Antal, who went four innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Meghan Heinsman had a tripled, singled twice and scored three of the Oilers runs. Anna Jones drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Kenzie Woods doubled and drove in a run for UF.
