Headstones damaged in Woodlawn Cemetery

Woodlawn Cemetery was another victim of the high winds that blew through the region Wednesday, overturning vehicles, downing trees and utility lines and causing damage to homes and property.Trees and limbs also fell at the Norwalk cemetery, damaging some grave markers.Another storm damage included tractor-trailers being overturned, some houses being damaged by falling trees, power outages and road closings.A big tree covers a number of headstones Thursday morning at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk following Wednesday's heavy winds in the area. A number of trees and utility wires came down during the storm.Wednesday's high winds snapped this tree at its base, causing damage to a number of headstones at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.High winds caused this large tree to topple at Woodlawn Cemetery on March 1. A crew was preparing to remove it on the next day. While some tombstones were moved or pushed off their base, none appeared to be broken, according to Henry Timman, a Norwalk Reflector columnist and local historian who also serves on the Norwalk Cemetery Association board of trustees. Once the tree is removed, the stones will be reset and realigned.
